It’s about time that California held general contractors accountable when their “subs” cheat their workers out of their hard-earned money. That’s the conclusion of Assembly Bill 1701 that is now pending in the state Legislature. And that also was the conclusion of State Building and Construction Trades Council President Robbie Hunter in a column that ran this week in the Sacramento News & Review.
“When it comes to protecting workers in the underground economy, the history of California has found that the buck stops . . . nowhere,” Hunter wrote.
